About the Vale of York

The Vale of York is situated in Thirsk, an old fashioned market town that lies between two of the country's most remarkable National Parks - the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. Our establishment provides the perfect base for those who enjoy memorable countryside walks or exploring the wider area. Places of interest include Aysgarth Falls and Sutton Bank, Fountains Abbey and Castle Howard. Thirsk also boasts The World of James Herriot centre, a tribute to vet and author James Herriot based in his original surgery at 23 Kirkgate, the 'Skeldale House' of his books.

North Yorkshire is also rich in picturesque villages and other market towns, such as Northallerton, Helmsley, Bedale and Leyburn. Here you can find bustling markets and quaint local shops offering locally produced goods. York and Harrogate, both a short drive from Thirsk, offer sophisticated shopping as well as historic landmarks.
